Basic Training: The 21st Century Approach to Network Marketing

The Internet could be the most powerful tool you've ever used for your network marketing business.  …Or not.

You can choose to implement some of the most effective new online marketing strategies.  Or you can stick with your same old way of doing things and just move it to the Web – and then a year from now, wonder why it's still not working.

I'll admit – thinking about learning new methods can be pretty intimidating.  You may not have a clue where to start.

I used to be in the same boat.  Here's my story:

I've been with the same company in the MLM industry for over 13 years – doing it the old way.  I like my company and I love their products.  But I wanted a better approach to building an organization. Something that didn't involve chasing people who aren't interested. Something that focused on people who already are.

In recent months I became aware of just how powerful Internet marketing can be. So I decided to take the plunge and build a Website.

Understand, I had no idea what I was doing. I'm not a computer programmer. I don't know HTML, the language most websites are written in. And I certainly couldn't afford to hire someone to build a site for me.

But as you can see, I did it anyway.  By myself.

And in the process of building, I was reading, reading, reading – everything I could get my hands on that involved the new Internet marketing strategies.  Then… trying them out, testing and tweaking. Finding out what works and what doesn't. As you can guess, this was no small undertaking.

The main purpose of this section of my Website is to share with you what I've learned and what I'm still learning. I would like to help other network marketers be successful online without having to climb quite as steep a learning curve as I did.

So… If you want to escape the frustration of building your organization the old-fashioned way, start attracting prequalified leads by the dozen, and see your income soar, here's your ticket. (Or at least clear directions to the travel agency.)

What you'll be learning here is how to build a marketing system that will:

  1. Attract prospects to you.

  2. Allow those prospects to sift and sort themselves so that you only spend your valuable time with the serious ones.

  3. "Presell" your prospects by giving them what they want most.

  4. Continue the follow-up process for you.

  5. Generate an immediate upfront income so you don't go broke before you get your business off the ground.

Before you start, I would like to recommend that you read The Renegade Network Marketer, an ebook by Ann Sieg.  Think of it as the course "text book." A lot of what I'll be teaching you is based on the concepts she presents.  It's an enjoyable read – Ann has a very engaging and amusing writing style – and you can probably finish it in a couple of evenings. If you don't already have it, you can order it here.

And here's one other resource I'd like to suggest.  I'm constantly learning new and improved techniques and strategies for building my network marketing business on the Internet. Sometimes I add that new material to my pages here, but mostly I like to tell my readers about it in my monthly newsletter, "The 21st Century Network Marketer."  In addition to valuable tips, each issue also features a guest article written by a recognized Internet marketing expert. You'll get your best results from "Basic Training" by reading through these segments in the following order.  Each one contains valuable concepts that you need to know, and they build on each other.

Lesson 1: A Dead Heat Pump and a Guy Named Dave
Learn the three most basic things you need to do to be successful in any business, especially network marketing.

Lesson 2: Who Is Your Target Market and Why Do You Need One?
The scatter-shot approach to network marketing just wastes your ammunition. In order to develop a laser-beam focus on your target market, you first have to figure out who they are.

Lesson 3: Moving Out of the Stone Age
Network marketing and the Internet should be a match made in heaven in this Cyber Age. However, I used to feel more like I was in the Stone Age. If you're feeling that way too, then this will show you the way out.

Lesson 4: Roll Up Your Sleeves and Start Building!
As you can probably guess, this installment is about actually putting content on your network marketing website. This is the fun, creative part! HOWEVER, resist the temptation to skip to this segment first. There are a lot of important concepts in the previous three lessons that you don't want to miss.

Lesson 5: Diversify Your Income
Wouldn't it be great if your prospecting activities themselves made you money – even when the prospect says no? Wouldn't it also be great if you could foot the bill for all your marketing efforts without dipping into the family budget? Your website can do this for you if you set it up right.

Lesson 6: Promote Your Site
This is probably the lesson you've been waiting for. You can have the most wonderful website in the world, but if no one sees it, what good is it? Here are several strategies to drive more traffic to your site.
